kaidan (階段)

The word ‘kaidan’ is the Japanese word for stairs. The design is largely inspired by a staircase, which can resemble an advancement in character, and is complemented by the waste marble that is used, showing how waste can still advance and is not completely useless.
Marble is a commonly used material in architecture and interior design, what we fail to realise is that these marble slabs do not come in perfect shapes naturally. When the marble is cut to its required dimensions and specifications, there are bound to be a lot of excess marble that goes to waste.
